Devil Sold His Soul formed in 2004 with three former members of Mahumodo. They released their debut EP Darkness Prevails before their first studio album A Fragile Hope on 18 June 2007. Their second album Blessed & Cursed, mixed by Steve Evetts, followed on 18 June 2010 and already featured Paul Green as a guest vocalist. The band played the Hevy Music Festival near Folkestone, Kent on 8 August 2010, then toured the UK with Architects.
In January 2011, bassist Iain Trotter left to pursue a career outside music and was replaced by Jozef Norocky, former guitarist of Rinoa. Vocalist Ed Gibbs announced in mid-March 2013 that he would leave after upcoming festivals; Paul Green of The Arusha Accord replaced him in April. The band signed with Basick at the end of 2013 and released a music video for 'Time'. On 23 January 2017, they announced a tour playing A Fragile Hope in full and the return of Ed Gibbs alongside Paul Green. After touring the UK and Japan in late 2017 and spring 2018, they worked on their fourth album Loss, released 9 April 2021 via Nuclear Blast.
